The lowered eaves on this second floor addition give the house more modest
proportions would have been achieved with a full height upper storey. The
original upstairs had two very cramped bedrooms with very low ceilings.
The new upstairs features 3 full bedrooms and a bathroom, all with gracious
cathedral ceilings. The trim band between the two floors further breaks
up the mass, while disguising the joint between old and new vinyl siding.
Supporting the new entry canopy on brackets, instead of porch columns,
both saved on the cost and made the required variance easier to obtain.
